hi does anyone know if there is a mechanical speedo can be fitted to the type 9 box. the box has an electronic part on it but no wires etc.
just wondering as have come across some and would be cheaper than a anything else
thanks
mark
do you have a pic of the box?
thought they were all cable driven
Are you sure you are not getting the electronic reverse sensor confused with the mechanical speedo sender?
no on me sorry not till weekend its a little box about 6 inches from prop shaft out put that had two wires coming out was deffinately to speedo
Most type 9s had the cable driven speedo . If you are using electric speedo you may be able to use the sensor. If not I'm sure someone would buy it from you,
can the unit on the box be bought as a separate thing. unfortunately the electronic part is knackered would need new one anyway
if your looking at it from the rear of the box what side is the speedo drive?
if its a speedo drive ( electric) might want to buy it from you
its on the left if you want will take pics at weekend have you got any pics of the mechanical part of it
The type 9 had both electric and mechanical senders fitted. Mine had an electric one fitted, which i removed and blanked off the hole.
Why would you want to fit a mechanical speedo? Its easier to calibrate an electronic one...

got hold of full dash for a MGB and the speedo is mechanical its also very cheap like all in for £10 so want to make them fit now where abouts is the mechanical output couldnt find it on mine
the speedo drive is on the right looking from the rear drivers side inthe uk
definately not confusing for the reverse switch and pretty sure its on the left

The speedo sender is on the right hand side (drivers side) looking from the back of the box. The reverse switch is also on the right IIRC.
The reverse switch has 2 connectors on it, the speedo sender had a wire coming out of it.
The sender either mechanical or electric, is positioned at the rear of the box (in the tail housing) right at the bottom about halfway down the tail
housing.
The reverse switch is at the top of the box right at the back.
Dont have a pic i am afraid.
MT75 box???
Heres a pic of my T9 box overall:
No closeups i am afraid
yep reverse on right got a picture not clear but the circled item is the sender on left looking from seat no close ups either
this pic was 6 months ago

thats ok i thought i was going mad
or even more anyway
so let me get this right the box should be able to have the cable fitted easily to
something that is already there
getting confused now hehe our boxes are the same anyway

If its a cable speedo sender it will have basically what looks like a small hole into the box the cable is secured with a circlip into a recess. The electrical senders have it blanked off and 2 wires sticking out instead.
i will have to have a look as all that is on mine so far is the electrical one that is just filling a hole will it be the same hole used
It is the same hole, just the other end of it. Hall effect, three wires. I use it to drive a VDO speedo gauge in my car. Works a treat. I had been looking for a replacement box for a few weeks when my local scrappy said he had just got three in. Went down and one had the hall effect sensor on it. Nearly snapped his hand off. But I didn't take a pic of it!
i see that will be why i didnt notice it will i have to mod the box at all to fit a cable
Ih i must have my gear box in up side down then the cable drive is on the right [ drivers side uk ] but there is a cap on the left side opposite the cable drive is this were the electric plug is fitted ? Graham
electronic is on left but not noticed hole or anything on the right thats just because i havent looked but will be soon
just found out why i cant have a cable on my gearbox its the new type with only one side to the speedo drive and it the electronic one. pity as i will have to try and find a electronic speedo with sender now as the one on gearbox is dead
