Any idea's about the 'perfect' ratio?
I was thinking 3.36???
What size are your wheels and tyres?
A 98 R1 with a 3.38 will give a top speed of 55 in 1st and 129 in 6th. A 3.62 will be slightly less but with slightly more acceleration. A 3.14 will have a bit more top speed with a bit less acceleration. There isn't too much in it really.
I'm running 13" wheels with a 60 profile tyre.
The engine is an 06 R1.

It is a spreadsheet showing the max speeds in each gear for different engines, diffs and wheel sizes.
2 points to note.
1) It's not about max speed - it's much more important to look at cruising speeds in top gear - you don't want your engine sitting at
8000 rpm at 60. Something like 5500 at 60 is good (on a blade anyhow). No doubt some folks with R1's will mention if I'm wrong
2) The spreadsheet has an R1, but I don't remember which year so you'd need to check if the gearing has changed much between those years and
adjust accordingly.
Good Luck

An 06 R1 has a taller 1st gear and lower other gears that 2002 or earler engines. a 3.62 would be quite revvy at motorway speeds. A 3.38 or 3.14 would be better
