Having read about some scary things when fuel tanks crack, I was wondering whether anyone has bothered making a safer one for the 7? Can you buy or make something that will deform without cracking when you get rear ended?
Was thinking about making something more flexible than aly/steel or maybe with a flexible liner but no cheap and easy solution springs to mind.

Some people have used plastic marine tanks - they look as if they are made in Legoland but they are probably a good alternative.

I really like your lights by the way. The original lights were the only bit i thought was iffy on the aeon, but those you've done really sort it out.

You could of course rather than having a flexible liner have a ali tank in a flexible outer (ie to contain the spillage if it ruptures)... Hows about incasing it in a blue ikea big bag thingy. Pretty tough material- even if the tank gets bent (and ruptures) the bag might well contain the petrol... Only problem would be holding the tank-in-a-bag in place...

marine tanks can be problematic, as the lid isnt often lockable (so you need a lockable boot lid for sva), the breather often isnt fuel proof when upside down (so needs blocking, and another breather adding). Plus there might be no connection for fuel return if you need one.

Fuel cells are a common idea in race cars etc, maybe not so locost though.

Hi just desighn an alloy tank with saftey in mind. Look at westfields they pass the german tests ok.
