I am currently giving my 2.0l pinto a damn good seeing to... ooer and want to know..

Is the flywheel off a 1.6 lighter and will it fit ?

some people have made refernces to this in the past - would really like to hear from someone who's tried it........

Cheers

Yep, seen it done, you'll need the smaller 1600 clutch, but I reckon it will more than handle the locost weight.

How is the 1600 pinto flywheel lighter?

timf - 3/7/03 at 02:41 PM

it is slightly lighter due to the fact it hasn't got the same ammount of meat at the back but in all honesty it works out the same price to have a 2l flywheel lightened
after you account for the fact you have to buy the 1600 one probably reface the clutch surface get new sized clutch.

i weighed both types and the 1600 was a bit heavier

Conrod's right,

I did bought a 1600 flywheel and I happend to be carrying both of them, one in each hand. Hmmm.....thinks I, these seem to be similar in weight. so I weighed 'em.

Cant remember the weights but the 1600 was 0.6 kg hevier than the 2000.

Had the 2 litre skimmed and binned the 1600.

Cheers

I did wonder why i had never heard of a 1600 flywheel being used...

I saw one used on a 2 ltr pinto cos the original was scored badly and we had a spare 1.6 handy. It fitted so it went in. The smaller pressure plate and cover must be lighter. If you are reusing the bolts to fit it put plenty of threadlock on them and make sure you degrease them and the holes thoroughly. Better safe than sorry.

yours, Pete.

Sorted it. The early ones on the 1.6 and 1.3 were 1" smaller friction plate etc.

Thanks everyone - useful advice...

methinks I need to find a source now for a cheap lightweight flywheel!

I don't really trust standard one's 'ground down' after I saw one fail - nasty!
