Red top slow running thingy..

I've got a standard Vx red top, and there's a slow running controller low down on the inlet side - which is all gummed up with crud - its got electrics in it, so I don't want to do my usual cleaning thing (stick it in the dishwasher!), anyone any ideas??

Carb cleaner.

That would be the Fast Idle Valve,

As suggested lots of carb cleaner down the inlets of it and you'll see allsorts of crud come seeping out of it!

Just carry on until it runs clear... its a common fault on them gettin crudded up or failing completely.

(If its the outside its ali bodied so it should scrub up pretty well)

Vxl call it an ICV, Idle Control Valve.

If it needs a clean you'll get a really lumpy/poor idle. If you idle fine from cold through to hot then its working fine.
