Anyone here know much about the Essex 3.0 V6?

Is there any major difference between the Essex from a 1978 Capri and an Essex from a 1983 Transit?

I still have nightmares about those.
Just remember to use genuine head gaskets, they last about a week longer than pattern ones.

Dreadful engines, I remember the very early ones in the Mk4 Zodiac, apart from being very rough they had an appetite for timing wheels, gaskets, pistons and big end bearings.

Essex V6 was out of production before 1983 so it must be transplant, main aplication of V6 Transits were ambulance chassis.

They may be heavy but they make a great noise - my timing wheel lasted 25 years and 140k miles before stripping teeth. Unfortunately as with all old engines they are horrendous on fuel - the cologne 2.9i and 2.4i (not the earlier cologne 2.3 or 2.8 carb versions at least) are much better engines.

Transits tended to be fitted with 2.5l V6's not 3l.

There are a few other detail changes but nothing very significant.

Many moons I had one of these beasties out of a Zodiac and shoehorned it into a standard Cortina GT.Great fun! It could pull wheelies in almost any gear all day long Needless to say I overreved it and not only did it strip the dreadful fibre timing gear it also stripped the teeth off second gear as well as the diff pinion!
