Got the XFlow started today (hence all the posts). I've chopped my sump but found that with the standard amount of oil I'm chucking out a lot of smoke etc. Pretty sure this too high an oil level. By how much can we get away with reducing the quantity of oil?

Maybe I'll fit an oil cooler to add a bit of extra capacity?

Did you put a measured amount of oil in, or did you fill it up using the dipstick?

The measured amount is probably too much, unless the sump chop included an extension or similar. You may be getting oil thrown up by the crank into the bores. I impressed a few motorists on the A12 when I over-filled once - accelerated hard from a junction and left a 2-lane wide cloud of smoke behind me as the oil flowed back in the sump!

An oil cooler may help, but be wary of over-cooling the oil.
