Just to let you all know how it all went!!
Tested racer today at the farm..
Redtop with flat flywheel onto Omega gearbox.
Used a Omega clutch and spaced the slave out 20mm with a turned up adaptor.
The engine has the Omega sump on it and an oil coller. I filled it with the right amount oil from a measuring jug.
It still seemed to puff a little of smoke.
Do you think the oil level needs reducing??
Russ
did you fit the windage tray / baffle between the sump and crankcase. mja
Yeap she is in there...
Sandwiched between sump and block
I'd give it a while to all warm up etc...
After they've been stood for a long time there notoriously rattely etc.
Hope the smoke aint oil on the Exhaust Downpipe, the XE sumps are a nightmare to get sealed!
The sump has sealed fine I used the rubber style gasket.
I have done the rocker cover mod and run the large brether to a catch tank.
I don't know if it makes a difference??
It has been sat for at least a year, i did the head gasket and cam belt etc
Any ideas to the smoke??
valve stem seals?
You should fill it according to the dipstick - NOT to the measuring jug. It might make a difference...
Stu please explain your reason behind this??
As I have fitted a Ecotec sump from an Omega which is basically the same engine.
I have filled the engine with correct amount of oil as per Haynes manual.
My reason for this is that the XE dip stick is in a different postion to the ecotec therefore could read different with the omega sump.
Hope I make sense...
Russ
I had to change mine to the rubber style gasket and baffle plate.
From the online guide I had it mentioned that part of the 8V Baffle plate needed removing to match the original XE's baffle plate clearance... I
just can't remember if it turned out the same or it really did need modifying
It might be worth checking if you haven't already done it.
