Morning folks,

I am fast approaching the point where I need to think about preparing the engine to go in my car. It is a Mk1 Mr2 engine, and it has been sat in my garage for a year and a half or so. I did drive the car with the engine in for a few weeks, and it was fine. no nasty noises, no oil consumption or leaks etc etc...

I'm planning on replacing the cam belt, and checking the clutch is not too worn, and give the exterior a good clean, but is there anything else that I should think about doing before installing it?

Also, has anyone got any good ideas for something to hold the engine while I work on it? It won't quite fit in my vice...!

pour a little oil down the bores the night before you start it again

I got me one of these - might be OTT for what you want, but I was totally rebuilding my engine at the time!

You might find one on ebay if you're lucky.

That looks like it might make things a lot easier, cheers david. I'm sort of planning to get the car running with the engine I have, and buy a second engine to strip down/rebuild once the car is on the road, so investing in a stand like that does seem like a good idea...

PS. Cheers for the oil down the bores tip. I presume this is to help the compression/movement after a long period of sitting still?

One tip is make sure you've got some long fine metric bolts to hold it on the engine stand, M12, 1.25 pitch and about 80-100 mm should do it.
