I am having problems starting it when cranking it over there are flames coming out of the carb and when i removed tha air filter the first choke is
jet black. the plugs are black to. I have got a spark and fuel I have checked the cam timing and that is ok could the ignition timing be 180 out?
any help will be appreciated

it would then have to be fule that is not so easy to sort.
May be a stupid question but are you sure that you have got the firing order correct? 1,3,4,2

just a tip; when I was learning the magic trick to start my xflow, I was over choking it resulting in sooted up plugs.
Clean the plugs before trying to start as I found they would not fire when sooted up.
hi all
I hav tried all of the above and still no joy?
please help
thanks
Gary
Start with the basics, check and adjust valve clearances, plug condition and gap , points?, condensor? firing order? With rocker cover off turn engine in D.O.R. until valves on no 4 cylinder (flywheel end) and "rocking" ie one closing and the other opening. set crank pulley so that timing marks align. Check rotor arm which should be pointing to no HT lead . If you have a Bosche distributor there is a small groove in the top face which should be for no one HT lead . Check for carb flooding , rectify as needed. HTH
