water temp?
jambo - 12/5/07 at 09:06 PM

hello
my car is running at a temprature of about 95 98 deg c and when i chase it on a little at 90mph(on private road)it is rising to 105 deg is this to much and if so whats going to happen.
the engine is the sierra twin cam injection with pressurised sierra water system.

90-95 in normal running is fine, not sure why it should go up with speed. Have you used a new rad? Have you tried a new thermostat?

If the temp is rising when going at faster speeds it probably means that the air to the rad needs ducting or some other airflow issue. 90-95 is about right for average operating temp.

With a good pressured system, 105 should be OK for short periods.

Does it get hot when you boot it or when you slow down afterwards?

In a presurised system water boils at about 115c.

As "The Razs" says the increase is due to an airflow or raddiator fin area issue.

One problem with Seven style bodwork is getting the hot air out the engine compartment.

It might help a bit to fit a lower rated thermostat -- the heat will still build up but at least it will start from a lower temperature .

You could fit a thermostat with a lower opening temp to give you a better chance of cooler running when pushing on!! I know you can get various different temp thermostats for the SOHC Pinto. Not sure about the DOHC version. I used a modified Nissan stat rated at 79°C

Water wetter will drop the temperature

thanks for the answers lads, looks like i will have to get it down a bit.
the problem is from the new grill i have put on and the turbulant air at greater speed must not be letting just enough air through. the problem is mostly on the mway like travelling back from stoneleigh
98 to 105 all the way 300 miles.
i will try and improve the ducting

is the rad well shielded, so the air has to go thru it ?
mine ran hot till i made the air got thru the rad instead of around and over it

noddy question; are you sure you've got all the airlocks out?
