Removing the Matrix
JoelP - 12/8/03 at 05:05 PM

If i was to remove the heater matrix of my 1600 pinto, do i plug the two pipes, or do i have to link them together?

Whats the best way to plug them, weld or cork?!

Ta in advance!

do you mean set the engine up so it will run without a heater?

I think the heater control lever opens and closes a valve, so in the cold position nothing flows through the heater. so the engine doesn't require flow and you can seal the hoses. I THINK. maybe not.

not sure about the best way to seal them. epoxy a plate on at the block? I would be scared to weld a block myself, and I doubt a cork would be much cop.

On my XR2 I just connected them together. Didn't appear to be a valve to cut off the flow. Runs (and cools) fine!

epoxy and a plate might be a tiiiiny weeeeeny bit lighter

actualy maybe as much as a semi-weeeeeny bit lighter, if you consider the coolant that won't be in that loop of tube.

please note I am being quite silly.
