Yes i have readthrough the other threads on this topic; but i had already re-assembled and lumped the pinto in my Indy. Anyway the question is , now i'm aiming to try start her up within the next few days how can i prime the oil pump with the engine in place. i was told try funneling oil through the filter hole etc and pray..
can anyone help please

You can put a dribble of oil into the cylinders to help get the rings airtight.

As for the other oilways, maybe turn the engine over with the starter but without the coil in so it doesnt start, that should circulate oil.

Only an idea so get a second opinion!

I'll try that and turn engine by hand a few times first. is there a way to know for sure if and when the pump is primed without using the starter?

I plan to pour oil through the centre hole (in the engine block) where the oil filter attaches. This usually leads directly into the outlet port of the oil pump - check your manual.

I haven't stripped my engine but I have had the sump and pick up pipe of for the past 2 months while the sump got shortened.

I'm about to re-attach the sump and oil pick up pipe.

Am I as well to pour oil into the pump through the hole where the pick up pipe attaches before I attach the pipe?

Or is there not likely to be a problem as I haven't touched the oil pump?
