valve bounce

hi a mate of mine has got a 2.1l zetec turbo. he had it on the rollers and he had to stop because the guy said he had valve float. and he wants to no if he can get solid tappets for his engine. it only made 230bhp before he had to stop.
but the zetec engine i have has got solid tappets and he said that no zetecs have them any help

Blacktops have solid lifters and shims, Silver tops are hydrolic.

Then someone must have fitted aftermarket parts, they certainly didn't come from Ford with them. Burtons sell them for about £18 each.

Note that hydraulic followers do not cause valve bounce, that problem is usualy caused by having incorrectly rated springs for the cam. With high lift, long duration cams, hydraulic followers can suffer from "pumping up", where the followers can actualy keep the valves open at high RPM, when they should be shut. This is most unlikely to apply to a tuborcharged engine however.

At what RPM is your friends engine suffering from valve bounce?

How much boost is he running? Is there any chance the boost pressure, combined with a not quite heavy enough spring is holding the valves open?
