Cooling temp sender fitting
chockymonster - 17/7/07 at 11:34 AM

Gents,

I'm struggling to find a way to fit the temperature sensor into the cooling system on my car.

The sensor has a 1/8npt thread.
I've been looking for hose adaptors but I can't find one that goes small enough.

I want to plumb it in before the stat, which on my 2003 R1 install means into 19mm coolant pipes.

I seem to remember seeing a picture in an archive of a sender mounted into the metal outputs from the head on the R1, but that involved welding and I have no access to any welding gear.
Any suggestions?

You may be referring to my setup here under cooling

This was brazed but it's not a very elegant solution!

paul

i've got a length of metal cooling pipe with a 1/8" npt boss (think it may be a caterham item). Not sure what diameter the pipe is but if it's any good you can have it. i'll measure it tonight.

Demon Thieves do them but they don't do a 19mm one (the closest is 16mm) and they're not cheap....

Had a similar problem fitting a coolant temperature sensor when I converted to injection. I ended up turning up a lump of ally to fit in line with a heater hose and fitted the sensor to that . Works fine.

Demon thieves and cheap in the same sentence, I never thought I'd see that

Koso make adaptors to do just this, I've just got an 18mm adaptor which is a snug fit for £12
