
Just been running my engine for 20 minutes to bed in my cam and check the cooling system all of which went ok, fan kicked in and went off after a
while.
Wanted to check the timing but my strobe light seems to be knackered
So in general quite pleased, but when I came to switch off the engine by using a switch connected to positive of my megajolt.
So megajolt off and engine carrys on running for a good 10 seconds.
Any ideas where to start, have just bought a vernier pulley as I'm running an fr32 cam, think thats what is was I bought off Mooky a while back.
Haven't got round to fitting it though.

Check to see if plugs are sooty. Could be carbon deposits in the cylinders. These could be caused by timing error causing incomplete combustion or mixture too rich
Engine too hot.
Most likely needs timing and idle speed set but it could be any of these
Fuel quality, ignition tiiming, excessively weak mixture, idle speed too high, inlet mamifold air leak, over heating, excessive carbon build up.
And if it isin't any of those... our megasquirt ran on because it was being backfed from the alternator charge light!
Turning the key on and off the power was switched on and off correctly.. just when the engine had ran the alternator kept it live.
Plugs are a chocolate brown colour, so ok.
Haven't got the alternater connected.
As it was a second hand cam shaft I havn't got a cardboard timing wheel.
Do I need one? If so...
Can anybody tell me in simple terms how to use it.
Could this be the problem? Basically just stuck it in and as it's got a key fitment and the original pinto pulley has a arrow on indicating TDC
just aligned it all up using that.
Your thoughts please.

Does your switch cut the power to the edis aswell as the maegajolt ?
The edis4 will run the engine without the megajolt

Cheers for the replies, think the plan will be once I get a timing light sorted move my toothed wheel until timing is bang on and not just put the
sensor 90 degrees btdc. Then fine tune it.

was your engine fan running when you switched off ? if it was this can create a back EMF that gives enough current to provide a spark, engine runs on until all unburned fuel is used up. Cured on mine ( and many other Westfields) by fitting an isolation relay to the engine fan

Most common cause is too weak mixture causing the engine to get too hot.
Fault was with ignition being far too retarded, fixed my strobe light and got the toothed wheel fine tuned and all seems well.
