engine mounts

Trial fitted the engine at the weekend!! Great fun.

At least it was great fun when I realised it would actually fit, just!

The main problem I have (as with most people) is the height. The specific problem I have with my mazda engine is the unusual position of the offside mount - it doesn't bolt onto the side of the engine like most piston engines seem to, it actually bolts underneath!

This means I'm going to need to make somesort of strange elongated S shape mount to allow it to sit lower. Its going to be a bit of a challenge to make sure its strong enough and still fits in the limited space available, which leads me finally to the question...

How thick would you recommend the engine mount rubber to be?

As its a rotary and runs smoother than a piston engine (esp at idle) I think I can get away with skinnier rubber than usual. Just wondering if you guys have got any recommendations/suggestions?

cheers.

remember that the rubber also cushions the engine from road vibration, which wont be lessened by the rotary factor.

i'd just buy some skimpy small ones and go from there, as production ones wont be too thin.

So does anyone have any suggestions for small rubbers??

MATES

Sorry couldn't resist that! How thin do you need them?

As thin as reasonable really. Got to design my own mounts within v limited space. Height is the main problem so wide short and flat is what I'm after really.

fiesta ones are about an inch high, maybe 1.5x2 ish.

not sure but i cant imagine them coming much thiner then that?

thats what i'm using anyway.
