I need to put some blanking plugs in my water system and in the engine block to remove redundant sender units. Question is will PTFE tape work to
assist the seal ? Only ever used it on household plumbing systems.

It wil work on threaded holes as it is designed to but if the holes are clean and you are not thinking of removing the blanks too often you may be
better using a thread seal compound and letting it set before putting any fluid or oil in.

so PTFE has no problems with temperature in an automotive environment then.
By thread sealant do you mean the blue threadlock stuff you would use on say flywheel bolts etc ?

I was thinking more along the lines of the liquid ones that set solid. I used one called Foliac jointing compound which was oil and heat resistant and
looked like thick red oxide. Borrowed it from brother in law so I don't know where it came from.
Just googled it and came up with this.

Loctite do a very good pipe sealant in a tube that will work on hydraulics, steam gas and fuel lines. It is like a thread lock mixed with ptfe and is
clean to use unlike Foliac and very effective. A tube has lasted me for the last 15 years and has not deteriorated.

I have personally used PTFE tape on extremely high pressure systems (1850psi) with no problems. It should generally only be used for taper threads to assist the seal. I have never seen any problems with it from oil contamination or frost. So can't really see any problems with it.
Yeah, I'll second that. We use it all the time on the coolant manifolds we make for our injection moulding tools at work. Never had a problem
with temperature or anything else to my knowledge.

1/8 npt and 3/8 npt !!!!
