Afternoon all,
Apologies if this has been asked before (and I'm sure it must have been) but I've been searching for a while and can't find a
definitive answer.
Exactly what size, type of thread and thread pitch are the bell housing to Ford Type 9 gearbox bolts - I gather they're not an industry standard.
As far as I can make out it's a late model box if that makes any diffrerence.
And will I be able to pick them up from the normal fastening suppliers or do they have to come from Ford?
TIA,
Mart.
If I recall correctly they were metric fine, I'll have a look when I get home if no one knows as their in a bag next to the bellhousing.
your avatar chassis could do with some diagonal bracing...

normal M12 pitch is 1.75, fine is 1.5, very fine is 1.25.
i have a sneaking suspicion they're M12x1.5

Thanks for the replies guys.
Obviously getting my thread definitions confused. Anyway, I've definately got 1.5 and 1.25 pitch (so fine and very fine) but neither fit.
I've checked the threads in the gearbox casing and they are clear. The 1.5 pitch bolts go in about 3/4 of a turn then lock up solid. The 1.25
will barely get started. Any chance they could be 1.75?

I've got some gauges that will enable you to check the pitch of the threads if you want to borrow them...
Alternatively, call BGH and get them to send you the bolts...

Mart, form looking about the web, I think they are M12*1.25mm.
Give us a little time to source you some
and i'll let you know
ATB Dan.
Evening Daniel,
I got some M12 x 1.25's from Whartons this afternoon but they don't fit either.
Steve, forgive my ignorance, but at risk of making an idiot of myself - who are BGH?
Mart.

As i recall when i converted a V6 to fit on the Pinto the bell housing bolts on both gearboxes were just standard M12
BGH are a company who sell reconditioned
and close ratio type 9 gearboxes. A good company to deal with in my experience.
They have a website.

There standard pitch , i thought that they were 10mm but may be 12mm.

cripes this thread is confusing!
They are NOT standard pitch, they are finer, and they are metric!
They are either M12 x 1.5 or M12 x 1.25, i don't know which without goign out to the garage and i feel like crap at the mo (ill again!!!!
)
Will look tomorrow, but nigh on certain they are M12 x 1.25

ATB Dan.
Thanks for all the responses gents. I've definately got M12 x 1.25's but they don't fit. Further investigation required me
thinks......
Cheers,
Mart.
Checked a set just now, they are 12 x 1.5.
Hi Folks
I have just come across this problem myself.
The RS2000 box that came out and the Type 9 that I part exchanged at BGH both have tapped M12 x 1.5.
My new exchange box has M12 x 1.75 so my existing bolts will not fit.
Conclusion is that Ford in their wisdom used both fine and coarse M12 bolts probably depending on what they had in stock at the time. Frustrating
isn't it when you were planning to fit the box and have all back together this weekend.
nothing is straightforward is it?
John
should be
M12 x 1.5, 30mm long
l realise this is an old thread but just to confirm (as requested recently by another Locoster) the bolts turned out to be M12 x 1.5 pitch.
Mart.
