hi all whats the best way to fasten my alloy petrol tank to the chassis on my mk indy . some say uni bond.. but would that be ok to pass the sva ..
a pair of ally straps would be better
what...glue?!
nope don't do that, use a pair of steel straps, with thin rubber or foam between them and the tank.
MK say they just use sikaflex now and don't bother with the straps anymore.
I'd personally prefer straps in case I ever have to take the thing out at some point.
ok thanks, i will be using steel straps. thanks...
or really really long and wide cable ties?
longest I've found, in stainless are 1 m but you can double/triple/... then up.
why aren't tanks made with tabs so that they can be bolted to chassis?

Bah, beaten to the post by the Whippy.
Tabs on an aluminium tank can crack at the weld as they all move slightly under cornering due to the weight transfer as the fuel sloshes round.
Are SVA ok with glued in tanks? Guess they must be, but seems a bit on the edge.

i wasn't to confident just using Sikaflex only as MK suggested so added a strap as well.
