Changing Sierra CV Boots
Andy W - 4/11/08 at 04:53 PM

I need to change the CV boots (push in type shafts) and was going to use the stretchy jobies, but the smallest diameter ones I can find for the joint end are about 65mm and I need 50mm. Does anyone know where to get any from. I've looked at stripping the shafts but it looks as though the metal covers need to be destroyed to get at the circlips. Are the metal covers still available?
I wanted to change all four

Thanks Andy

Metal covers are available from ford, think its about a tenner a cover + vat.

I bought a universal set of stretchy boots off ebay, If you cut them down to their smallest size they do fit. After I had fitted one of my shafts I realised that it'd have been a good idea to just leave the boot full size and put an extra clip around the cover.

as above just used the standard stretchy ones

Just don't be tempted to use sticky boots

I did on my tintop. Got me through MOT but fell apart shortly afterwards (just like everyone on here said they would!!) and killed the CVJ

Thanks

Think I'll give the double clip method a try

And me. I bought the unviversal 'flexmex' ones on ebay and cut the big end off to fit. Seems ok.
