Cleaning testing injectors
Went for the first start today and ran into a few issues the main of which being the injectors.
The engine was cranking fine but not firing so i puttled the injectors out and cranked and they were all dry so tested the wiring ECU to Inj and all
fine I happened to have a spare fuel rail and injectors kicking about so i swopped over and did the same one of these injectos worked but the other 3
didnt. Is there a way of cleaning out and testing the injectors?

Generally speaking injectors are not worth cleaning/repairing. It can be done, and there is probably a local company that can do it for you, but I
don't suggest it. You can flow test, inspect the spray pattern and do a resistance test of the solenoid, and the injector can stop working the
next day. If one injector has failed the others are usually close behind.
If you want you can touch power to the injectors. If they click the electrical end is working.

When I went to start my engine after building and sitting for who knows how long, none of the injectors worked. I hung them tip down in a bottle of
injector cleaner over night. Next day I fired them while in the fuel rail but not in the engine and they started squirting but not well so I mixed
the gas tank( a coffe can with 50/50 gas injector cleaner and ran them again. After a couple of minutes they fired up to a nice even conical mist.
Engine ran fine after that but its now been 3 years without being fired so I dont know . I have a bigger set of injectors to go in anyway.

They are 02/03 R1 injectors. I didnt know if there was somthing I was missing as out of 2 fuel rails (8 injectors) I only have 1 working injector
(well one that sprays)

Verify that your injectors are being switched by the drivers. If you connect a test lamp between the 2 wires you should have flashing when the engine
is cranked.
It is also possible that those injectors are prone to sticking when they sit un-used for a while. May be worth a try to soak them in a bucket of gas
or injector cleaner overnight.

This is how I cleaned up a set of injectors:
230/12v transformer with a single diode on the output, this provides a 50hz pulsed supply.
Injection fuel pump
Can of injector cleaner
Car battery
Bit of rubber pipe to connect the bits together
Glass jar.
Simpy half fill the jar with cleaner, loop the injector, and fuel pump together sourcing fuel from inside the jar and holding the injector above at
the top so it sprays in
Connect the fuel pump to a battery, and the injector to the pulsing 12v supply, you will now see the injector sparying fuel into the jar, watch the
pattern improve after a few minutes then substitute the injector for the next one.
When the spray patterns all look the same you can time how long it takes it injector to pass a set amount of fuel to confirm they are all
consistant.

When I first started my car, it ran on 3 cylinders, eventually isolated the problem to an injector, soaked it in carb cleaner overnight (on advice
from here) and cured the problem and still running strong after 3 years.
Even more locost solution
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Right injectors are off the spare fuel rail and soaking in a cracking solvent baised cleaner called unrelease (which works very well on seased nuts
and electrical componants alike) ill hook them up in the morning if thay are still causing problems off to get some carb injector cleaner.
It must be just becasue they have been sat doing nothing for well over a year

On the later (04 onward) R1 you can test fire the injectors via the dash diagnostics. Don't know if thats an option on the earlier ones?

I have put a light on the connectors for all 4 cylenders today and they all light as expected. The injectors are now soaking in injector cleaner and
seems to have already worked on one of them so hopfully tomorrow it should be ok
far to cold to do anymore now

after a bath in halfraud in tank injector cleaner (neat) over night all 4 injectors started spraying little petrol clouds

Good to hear. Must just have been some rotten gas plugging them up. Hopefully they will work well from now on.
