Geoff, Rusty nuts & Steve

Geoff (jambobeef), rusty nuts & Steve (Howler), you guy's have made an old man happy. After spending years working on car engines I could not believe that a new set of plugs would cure the backfiring un-starting mess my Fireblade engine was in. Reluctantly on you guy's advice earlier today I spent £36 on a new set NGK's put them in, pressed the button and zoom, not a bang or mis-fire in sight, sweet as a nut. So pleased took it out around the village where my garage is for a a very illegal blast. How can a new set of plugs make such a difference, the old plugs looked fine. Thanks again guys. Barry

Bike plugs are notorious for getting fouled up and still looking pristine.
A guy came to me with a Radical with a ZZR1100 which would not start.
He had fitted new plugs, started it once then could not get it to run.
I put in a set from my engine and it started no problem.
Re-tried his plugs and noticed that the sparks were going between the insulator and the body (inside the plug) not from the electrode.
His engine seemed to be overfulling and this had fouled the plugs in short time.
I tried the usual washing of the plugs but no change. As a last resort I took a blowtorch to them and burnt off the 'invisible' deposit.
The plugs worked - but took off the zinc plating (so not recommended).
Still not a cheap way to run a motor if you need £36 of plugs every day

Have you managed to get the car restarted yet?

Reconnected the battery after I disconnected it over night and the engine fired up fine. Dunno what happened. The immobiliser flashing light just went very dim and stopped flashing.
