Placement of Lambda Sensor on V8 Exhaust

My exhaust design will utilise a cross-pipe between the two cylinder bank exhaust manifolds.

Would it be acceptable to have just the one sensor... at the centre of the cross-over?

You'll certainly get enough flow there..

I thought the best thing to do with a V8 was a sensor per bank? Might be you only use of them, but both are useful for tuning purposes, then blank one off afterwards..?

Also depends what type of sensor; istructions with my WB says is must be 1 metre from the exhaust ports; with a NB, the closer it is to the join (be it 4, 6 or 8 ports), the better - yet again, depends on if you're thinking 1 or 2 sensors.

Long live RWD...

No decision made yet... thought I'd wait and see what the general consensus was.

thats an intersting one.

I have a boss in each bank and my lambda can reach either side.

but to answer your question if using that cross over you would be ok.

use 2 - 1 in each bank. all it costs is another 18mm nut to weld on and a blanking plug.

Running use 1 and when the car is on the rolling road you can swop over to make sure both banks are the same.

The nice rolling road man in Fife might even loan you 1 just for the day.

If you are using carbs, just be aware that each carb feeds two cylindars on one bank and two on the other. (rover v8 that it) So no real point in fitting two. If you are using injection then I would fit one in each manifold. just before they join together.

You want a sensor in a hot part of the exhaust and as close as possible to the exhaust port -- ie ideally 2 sensors 1 for each bank as close as possible to where the branches from the cylinders join.
