xflow 711m 1600 with a piper xf 24 at 4000 dizzy.
does any one else have this set up? any idea how i can find out what cam i have in it as im setting the timeing on guess work,
any help would be great,

If your lucky, the cam will have it's type stamped in the end of it, just take the timing chain cover off, align the marks and remove the chain
and sprocket to reveal it. (might be worth taking off the rocker gear just to take any pressure off.
other option i found is possible is to remove the sump, and look along the cam, between it's bearings on the cam and rotate itm until you can
see the markings on it (i know this is possible for a ford GT cam, but I don't know for aftermarket. I suspect the 1st method is more
reliable)
but as usual someone on here will tell you the proper way and that i don't know what i'm talking about.

It is usually stamped on the camshaft somewhere, but obviously you'll need to take the engine to bits to find it unless your very lucky and its
stamped on one end.
My memory seems to recall that my piper cam was stamped on one of the ends, but I could be very wrong, might be worth a check.
Once you know what cam you can usually download the settings you should use from the manufacturer, kent and pipe (and burton) have theinformation on
their websites, i ehow many degress btdc. From there you can use a dial guage and cam dial wotsit.

Jag ones are stamped on the side of the cam so may be worth looking along it 
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

thanks lads, i might try checking the end, i dont want to take the engine out to look at it.
im guessing a rolling road bloke will be able to advise best setting from trial and error and figure it out, what do you recon?
