2.0 litre Pinto, Ignition Timing Query
Please could you confirm for me the ignition timing information on my 2.0 litre pinto engine. The Haynes Manual states 8 Degrees BTDC auto data states
10 Degrees BTDC. The timing mark is more than visable on the left hand top of the crank pulley (and I have marked with tippex) on the front pulley is
a mass of grooves and lines with conflicting info in both Autodata and Haynes, Am I right in thinking. The engine rotates clockwise, there fore the
final line on the pulley is TDC and the ones before are degrees BTDC?
The car runs well and I am well aware that 2 degrees is not going to make a massive difference but however would like it right.
Also is it vac on or off when setting the ignition timing.

10% -12%
the best way is to use a strobe light
and remove the vacuum pipe

Ok so vac pipe blanked off and disconnected, 10-12 degrees BTDC and I have a digital strode light so I can dial in 10 Degrees BTDC and which line am I
using on the bottom pulley then?
The engine is a standard 205 block and cam. D gas carb and 4 into 2 into 1 exhaust.

If you are using a strobe you can dial in the advance with just set the strobe at 10° and you are looking to line up the TDC mark, the big one with
the timing mark. The lamp has sorted out the advance for you.
