Xflow Crankcase pressure
Hi All,
Normally the PCV valve in theblock is put intot the inlet manifold.
I'm running twin webbers, so is it OK to connect this to the Oil filler cap? or not?
I tried conneting it to a catch tank alone
but the catch tank seem to fill very quickly, or do i have a bigger problem?

I would still do the catch tank thing, was your catch tank above the highest point of the engine. I wouldn't want to re feed emulsified oil
back into the engine imho.
Need to find out why it's filling up the old catch tank so quickly. Do you have any pictures?

depends what you define as the highest point of the engine?

cam shaft spray bar, but anywhere higher than the rocker cover would be fine imho

The big bore pipe going to the top left side of the bottle goes to where the pcv valve used to be. I know mines a pinto but the same principles
apply.

Just had a look at your picture archive and are you still using the pcv valve housing but removed the internals, because pcv valves use vacuum to open
the valve and if its not connected to the inlet manifold you won't have any vacuum so it would build up pressure.
But as you aren't suffering from oil blowing out of the dip stick etc you must have removed them so should be ok.
By the look of where your catch tank was, get some longer pipe and move it higher and you should ok.

Nope thats the old engine, got a burton replacement for that now with NO valve. I think that may be the problem possible
Also my Catch tank isn't as high.
whee does the filler cap pipe go on yours?

Other side of the bottle same height as the other can just see it if you look carefully, the pipe at the bottom is just a drain with a clipped bolt up
it.

I connected the crankase breather to the rocker cover by brazing in a pipe fitting half way along, I then connected another breather from the neck of
the oil filler to the catch tank and fitted a baffle under it.
It still filled the catch tank fairly quickly, seems to be something crossflows are known for.I dont think the height of the catch tank will make a
big difference as I tried mine on the bulkhead and also on the footwell and it didnt make any difference.
I eventually solved it by fitting a Zetec.

hopeful;ly i can find a resolution until then. the 1300 didn't fill it once. but the 1600 is doing it in less than 20 miles.
I think i have a possible solution for now.
but zetec / duratec may be the next step

Got exactly the same problem (among others) with my crossflow, seems to be super critical on oil volume. Without a filter change it will only take
2.75 litres of oil before it starts to spit it out into the catch tank. Put 3 litres in and it immediately puts a quarter of a litre in the catch
tank.
