Typical! - xe overheating day before rolling road session!!
Got the f27 booked in for a rolling road session tomorrow at John Yeomans in Whitchurch to set up the weber 45's on the xe, started her up
from her winter slumber and watched the temp rise - but the fan didnt kick in! crap.
Then petrol started peeing out of the carb trumpet on no1 cylinder!! double crap!
swopped the fan sender for a spare - but that didnt work either!! 12v straight to the fan works ok - I still reckon a new sender is in order - but
the one that was on it was new last year and worked fine before winter lie up. Thermostat is working ok too - any ideas anyone before I get really fed
up with it and shut the garage door on it for a while!!!

Have you checked the fan switch itself? It's best not to make assumptions with car electrics, check everything.
If necessary, take it out, test it, then stick it in some near boiling water and test it again, if the contacts have closed, problem is somewhere
else.
Sounds like a float valve problem with the carb, have you had a look

Pull the connector of the temperature switch and connect the wires together. If the fan still doesn't switch on, you have a supply or grounding
problem, if it does it's likely the switch.

**UPDATE**
got my car back from the garage, all sorted out now with 12months MOT to boot.
found out the temp gauge on the dash was 15 degrees over the actual temp, and also they had to move the rad fan swith to the top hose to get the fan
to work - as the water was cooling down too much in the rad - so the switch wouldnt come on where it was previously fitted so the engine block temp
kept on rising!
I can get some mileage on it now!!
