XE low on power
Just rang the rolling road place where my F27 is for getting the carbs set up right, he has just done a power run and its only making 120 bhp!!!
the carbs/ignition and fuelling are all ok now - the engine has previously been stripped and given a .5mm overbore had new pistons and rings fitted ,
ARP rod bolts, head stripped , pressure tested etc - dunno what it could be to give such a low BHP figure???
He is going to do a compression test next - any one any ideas??
was hoping for a bit more power than my old pinto

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Is that 120bhp at the wheels or estimated at the crank?
Could be a lot of the difference between what you expected and what you got - if 120bhp is at the wheels and you were expecting 160+ at the crank then
it may not be quite as bad as you think

Need the info from the curve and its assuming this is a Fly figure and not RWHP.
If its fly then as well as the compression, cam timing and exhaust back pressure would be my ports of call.

Cheers for the quick replies , the figure of 120 bhp is at the fly , 150 bhp is ( as already mentioned) standard with normal ecu etc, but on twin 45
webers , standard cams it should be roughly around the 170 bhp mark.
how would I sort out any exhaust back pressure?? a new 7" diameter can?? ( car builder solutions £200) or larger diameter manifold/pipework?

It would be helpful to see the power curve and AFR also......
What is your manifold like?.....also, are things like plugs, filters, leads, etc in good condition....
Ditto the comments re compression, and cam timing...this would need to be double checked....

Did he optimise the ignition on the dyno? Does he have a plot showing measured power and AFR against RPM?

Though I'd be wanting to know for sure what the problem is before buying anything.

No printouts yet, only spoke to him on the phone briefly this afternoon, he has a great reputation and definately knows his stuff about these engines
and I trust him to sort it out. As soon as I get an update good or bad i will post it on here,
The car (as is) is running sweet now, but he knows the power is down and wants to find out why (as do I!).
