Compatibility Q (eng/box)
As it seems I may have terminal problems with my Pinto engine (possible cracked block/head) I'm pondering the options:
0. My engine is actually OK and it's a timing or mixture issue. I think a hot compression test is going to prove that this is not the case (Not
done yet as it's been raining)
1. Procure serviceable block and head and rebuild my wobbly bits into them. Down-side: possible bore diameter difference requiring new pistons
2. Procure complete 'new-to-me' serviceable Pinto engine. Simplest option
3. Procure and rebuild a knacked engine. Don't want to commit to such expenditure
4. Fit a different, but compatible engine. Now the Sierra donor that I used for the MK was only my second Ford in 40 years. The first was a 103E Pop
back in the early 70s.
So I am completely iggorant about recent/current Ford engines and wouldn't know a Duratec, CVH, Zetec from each other.
Q is, is there a non-Pinto engine that would be compatible with my current gearbox? (I actually like the auto) Am I right that Zetec can be persuaded
to fit?
Trouble is, I've invested quite a lot in the Pinto setup - the shortened sump, stainless headers and the hole in the bonnet.
As I say, I'm still pondering options. Any thoughts, guys & gals?
Thanks,
John.

Hi there,
Type nine box will fit most ford engines without much trouble at all. Get your self a zetec silver top look at http://www.zetecinside.com
there used to be loads about converting to rear wheel drive.
I not sure about the blacktop zetec there are differences according to this site.
Zetec is smaller depth as well and poss lighter. Less weight more speed. Mark
Second build. Now refining and changing drive train

Your Pinto has an automatic gearbox ? Then nothing will fit.

Fair enough; couldn't be simpler!
I thought Zetec and Type 9 were compatible with minor mods so the idea was to swap the Zetec flywheel for a Pinto torque converter or see whether the
A4LD would plug straight on to an auto Zetec engine. I bow to your knowledge.
