LSD group buy
if you want a LSD for a tiger SuperSix (cortina mk4/5 cologne axle) you cant, trust me you cant, quaife, tran-x and BGH dont........the only option is
to have one custom made so i have got a discounted price from gripper.
for a single unit it would cost £900+vat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but i can get it down to £650 pus vat which is not bad for a custom part, you can
specify ramp- angles etc all i need is another 4 people to sign up.
Anyone??????????????

Do you mean the Koln axle? If so it would be worth looking out for an Atlas, as LSD's are easily available for these and the Atlas is a much
stronger axle.

Some info on Cortina axles: There are 2 types of axle that came on mk3/4/5 cortinas, the standard one and the fairly rare heavy duty one. The standard
one is a Koln axle and as catman says, LSD's are bloody hard to find for them (Tiger had some specially made years ago, but they are long gone
now).
However, the H/D axle is actually based on an Atlas axle, and Atlas LSDs (i.e. Capri etc) fit just fine into the HD Cortina axle.
You can tell if you have an HD axle - there are 2 tell tales:
1. The prop flange at the front of the diff will be held on by a nut on a thread that protrudes beyond the front of the flange (on standard axles the
thread does not protrude)
2. The diff cover at the back is held on by lots of small bolts. On a HD these are evenly spaced all round, on a standard axle the top and bottom
bolts are offset about 10mm.
I looked at going down this route, however the scarcity of the HD axles and the silly price that Capri LSDs are commanding put me off, so I'm
converting the rear of my Six to de-dion using a Sierra LSD and a GTS de-dion beam. Not as easy, but I think the results will pay off, and it should
be considerably cheaper (but sadly I've spent the saved money on more upgrades!)
Hope this is useful!
Tom

Ed,
Mike is correct. The way to go is to get an Atlas lsd in there.
Are you sure you have a Koln axle? GENERALLY.... The 2.0 cortinas used a version of the axle that is commonly known as the Atlas and had a 3.75 diff.
It was only the 1.3 cortina that used the Koln with a 4.1 dif in it but the half shafts and diff are all smaller and weaker. I have 1 of each but I am
picking up another in the morning that has an LSD fitted. It is alledged to be new and supplied by Chester sportscars.
I'm not sure what diff it is yet or what ratio it is but will be checking tomorrow night.
If it is any good I would do you a good deal on my old Atlas axle and then all you need is to find a 2.8 capri lsd and then swap over the cwp.
ETA..must type faster
Cheers,
Mark.

I saw that on ebay and was tempted. Just too far to travel and get it.
You got it for a good price too.
If Ed is not keen on the spare Atlas I would be.
