engine advice wanted
A new build fury, requries propulsion. leaning towards zetec 1.8/ 2.0. has been mentioned a smaller capacity short stroke engine may be more fun.
car is my first build. looking for a modernish engine, dohc sequential ignition to fit carbs for budget reasons, any advice appreciated. all prices
concidered, bargain even more so. i also feel like being different, but not if i'm going to regret it later

plenty of zetecs out there tuneable to 200bhp. the Vauxhall redtop is a more powerfull engine bur costs more to install. Im running a 1.8 on carbs
(pre 95 engine no emmissions) an injected model using megasquirt will still pass IVA and will remaine the right side of £500 if a second hand engine
is used
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

If cost is a major consideration stick to Ford -- almost anything else leads to costs mating the engine to a Ford rwd gearbox.

I had a 1.6 sigma turbo but only 0.3 bar, 145bhp 140lb/ft in a fiesta. Went well but blew it up 3 times, would never have another
Also know someone who's thousands into a 1.6 NA sigma that revs to 9-10k and sounds fantastic, still only makes 160 odd bhp at 9krpm though.....

The GM 1.6 Ecotec is capable of some very respectable power outputs, it's all alloy as well. A very overlooked option IMO.

vauxhall XE, or as said up the thread, Ford Duratec, bolts straight on to mazda box so cheap to rwd convert it
Retro RWD is the way forward...........automotive fabrication, car restoration, sheetmetal work, engine conversion
retro car restoration and tuning

Doable - bellhousings are available, but Vauxhall have IIRC kept the same pattern for years, so you could use the gearbox from a Manta/Carlton/Omega
(Omega one is a bit bigger, I think).
Long live RWD...

dont follow the croud and get a duratec, get a merlin v12 out of a spit fire, and then turbo that
i would go for a redtop and turbo that,my mate steve has a hot hod with a redtop all steel and with out the manager in it its a easy 270bhp,turboing
one of those would be cossie power,
turbo redtop,

Have a look at my thread on here (stickied at the top of this section) or my website in the link below.
Mines totalled around £800. All thats left to do is make the engine mounts and exhaust. So £1k all in should do it. On top of that cost you would need
a megasquirt unit but thats it.
