Pinto valve clearance question

I have a 2.1 pinto with a piper 285 cam. The clearances are supposed to be 0.008" inlet and 0.010" exhaust from what I can find out.

But where should the cam lobes be to check?

Inlets have the biggest gap whilst the lobe is pointing straight up, so no problems here.

Exhausts have the biggest gap whilst one face of the lobe is vertical.

So pinto experts - should I adjust when there is max clearance, or when the lobe is pointing straight up???

Confused

I just do mine with the lobes straight up. Used to muck around with it and it would take and hour to set them all. It's just not worth it.

As long as you set each one the same then you will be ok.

cam lobe 90degrees (away) from the gap you are checking.

Thanks guys - just picked up a new gasket 'cos the old one is weeping a bit. I'll redo the exhausts as by the sound of it they will be a bit tight.

Cheers!
