Expansion bottle question...
Hi
The cooling system on my xflow is quite simple. i have the filler in the thermostat ousing with the vent going to a half filled overflow bottle with a
non pressurised cap on it. the housing has a 13psi cap. There is no heater.
Will I see any benefit temp wise by fitting a fiesta thermostat housing, doing away with the overflow bottle and routing the outlet from the inlet
manifold into the top of an expansion bottle, and the bottom outlet of the bottle into the water pump 16mm inlet?

All you'll achieve is removing the small amount of evaporation you get from the over-flow bottle, making it a more efficient system loss wise. I
assume the pipe into it goes into the bottom so any water pushed out is sucked back as it cools? It's a perfectly exceptable system and still
used by Toyota.
With a sealed expansion bottle you'd have to find a position where the water level in the bottle was above the stat'.

tbh I just wouldn't bother. Both my Falcon and the Bluebird use that kind of cooling system without any hastle at all, it's just as low
maintenance as any other.

^^^ what they say - I assume that the vent is closed off by the radiator cap - otherwsie your system will not be pressurised so will boil over at
lower temp.

If it's the standard x-flow rad cap, it has a 2-way valve - any excess pressure is bled into the tank, to be sucked back when the engine
cools.
The system works well for me too.
