oil filter attachment....

Couple of problems with my zx12 lump

I've noticed the oil filter attachment has a dent in it, which means the oil filter won't sit flush and will leak!

Can I buy a replacement filter fitting? I can't get the dent out as behind it are all the cooling fins.

or what about a sandwich plate and use a remote filter type arrangement? I intend to fit a oil cooler so do I still need the water cooling if using a oil cooler?

ebay would be a good place to start; send query to bike breakers on there.

if I understand you, then yes, you definitely want water cooling if engine had that originally!!! cooled oil is secondary to water cooling.

depends on the filter diameter and thread; dunno about bike filters but car oil filters have diameter sealing ring although filter can be larger diameter and use 2 pretty standard threads; from memory M18 and 3/4 UNF so it is easy to get sandwich plate. And as long as you can get the matching hollow bolt you are sorted.

If you wanted to get a new one then that looks like an oil cooler to me. I doubt you'll be able to get the dent out but you may be able to build up the metal in the dent with some instant metal putty, then sand it flat.

I've not used it with oil though so hopefully someone will confirm if it will work or not.

ooh, see what you mean. obvioulsy you cannot get to the back of it anmd presumably it cannot be dissaebled - looks like it is pressed together.

maybe dirll a hol and insert self tapper to pull but then how to fill in the hole?

or clean the surface to shine and load up with some plumbers solder and file down to flat; eassier said than done I guess.

Yeah its an oh bugger moment!

Going to see if I can find another... I'm going to run a remote filter anyway just for ease and space.

Just more bloody money its going to need!!!
