4-2-1 or 4-1 poll
Looking at a new exhaust for my viento with vauxhall c20xe red top and just wondered what setup would be best.
I understand a 4-2-1 gives better mid range performance and a 4-1 gives better top end.
My car is used on the road but next year i am going to get into trackdays
What are your views?

4-1 nothing looks better than the old gatling gun sticking out the side of a car!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Since your car is mainly a road/trackday car I'd go for mid-range punch every time.
If it were a hillclimber/sprinter or circuit racer it would be a harder choice.

4-2-1 gives the best all round performance, thats why most bike aftermarket systems have it.

I'm with iank on this.
Since the car is mostly used for road and track days I'd use a 4-2-1 (In fact that's what I'm gonna do on my ecotec when the build
gets that far)
If it was an out and out track/hill climb car only then would I go 4-1
Who the f**K tightened this up!

4-2-1 is what my ecotec already is, and the manifold is a old racing part from a red top

Is there a basic rule at what length the exhaust pipes should join or is it just plug and pray ?

4-2-1 whats the point of trying to push the cars top end, its common knowledge that the 120 - 130 mph is all you get. go for getting there faster

I think you mistaking the meaning of topend, in this situation it means tope end of revs, meaning you would need to use the high end of the revs to
get the most power, and that would be in every gear so not just top gear where max speed is reached.
The other thing to check for on any quote figues for engine/manifold combo is peak torque, you dont want to have peak power in a different band of
revs tan the torque as you will want to make use of both.
