x-flow Camshaft timing

Just thinking about playing with the timing of my kent 244 cam. Its sitting in my X-flow and even if its running well right now what would be the changes should the cam be advanced by a couple of degrees? Would it effect the idle performance? what about the power band?

If the cam is central then advancing 5 - 7degrees will increase mid range by as much as 10%, loss 5% off the top and improve idle.

5 - 7 degrees retard will drop mid range by 5 - 10 % while add 5% at the top.

You really want it a little advanced, it improves things by reducing pumping losses.

Regards Mark

I think I'll give it a go then thanks! what are the pumping losses? Are you referring to the accelerator pump?

The losses incurred by the engine whilst pumping air in and exhaust gasses out.
