Duratec Bellhousing
A friend of mine with a Duratec engined Tiger had an issue at Llandow yesterday with his bellhousing. Something has come loose inside the bellhouse
and created a 3" by 2" hole in the housing and a crack by the starter motor.
The car is being recovered today. Obviously it will need the gearbox taken off to find out what caused the hole (engine still runs and gears engage,
not sure if it will drive as we didn't try it) and crack but we have the part of the bellhousing that was broken off.
Is it possible to repair alloy bellhousing after this level of damage ? I assume that there isn't much structural work being done by the
bellhousing as such but it acts more like a spacer.....Will it need welding or can it be re-attached with chemical metal (assuming we have all the
bits from the hole !)?
I doubt he wants to spend £245+VAT on another Raceline one.

It is structural, and deals with the torque delivered by the engine to a point.
I wouldnt use chemical metal, but would use either TIG or Alumiweld.

It can probably be Tig welded.
I used to repair lots of gearboxes after having crash damage.
Just find a local welder to do it and they will advise you of wether to strip the housing off or not.

Hi
having it tig welded will be the best option. But make sure the two faces are kept parralel. will give endless trouble with the clutch drive plate if
it's not parralel.
