I hope im wrong but the only two options i can see are to lift the front of the engine or move the starter

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

ooops - jin the club - I had this when I lowered my engine, it was the gearbox bulge inthe way as well - moved the rail.

.... but in your case, is it the motor or the solenoid (small lump on the side of hte motor) that is hitting the chassis?

if the latter, can you find an inertia motor to fit? (I've a feeling the ring gear teeth are different).

So will a crossflow one be compatible? (pity this didn't happen 2 months ago as I could have mearued one up for you.)

In my case the crossflow starter did not fit the Zetec 1.8 with mt75 gearbox, because the distance beween the starter mounting flange and the pionion is different.

I would modify the chassis if I were you.

^^^ interesting ... so the crossflow starter was too sort to reach the ring gear?

otherway round you could have used a spacer.

is the OP using the same gearbox? I a bit sruprise that the crossflow does fit though.

Yep, crossflow starter does fit the mt75 gearbox (bolt pattern). It was too long, and I could have used spacers. Did not think about that option though, and decided to get a sierra starter which is a direct fit.
