1.8 CVH

What do i need to get a 1.8 CVH running, all I have is a bare engine so things like manifolds etc are obvious, what do i do about a spark etc, looking at LO-Cost options here.

I've also got a 1.8 cvh, but i have the majority of bits for it. Just not the loom or ecu (i think thats wat its called).

What would be the easiest way/cheapest way of getting it running, would it be to try and get a loom and ecu? Or to go down the bike carb/megasquirt route? I am also planning on upgrading to a Zetec after about a year.

Don't remember any 1.8s with dizzy , they have the 36toothed pulley and sensor with the rotor arm driven off the front of the cam all controlled electronically

The 1.8 CVH seemed to come in two varieties.

The one with dizzy and carb, it does have a 36 toothed wheel and can run as is on the stock esc hybrid ignition system, it does in my car anyway. This is a R2A engine code. 9.3:1 compression ratio and approx 88.5 BHP at 5250 rpm.

The later 1.8 litre engines in the Sierra without the dizzy is the R6A version and used single point injection. It uses a coil pack and edis unit from a separate ECU. This will also have the 36 toothed wheel.
The book quote these as being 85.8 BHP at 5200 rpm probably down on the earlier due to emission restrictions.
If not using the injection system then either can be done with bike carbs and megajolt.

Hope this helps someone.

Adrian

Why do I have to make the tools to finish the job? More time then money.
