TYPE 9 5 SPEED HELP
I've just bought a type 9 to go into the kit, I was wondering if there are any common faults or issues that will need looking at.
Or shall I just change to oil seals front and back, and splash in some fresh oil.

Plastic saddle on end of gearstick is seems to ware out; cheap and easy to fix..
Output oil seals can become worn..
Apparently the type 9 is able to sustain high mileage under normal use...
All I did was change the oil, and replacesthe plastic saddle (that had total disintegrated causing the box to jump out of reverse as it could not be
selected properly).. The box had done 100K and now works just fine..

It's worth replacing the prop-shaft seal while the box is out - an easy job, and not expensive. A new speedo outlet seal is a good idea if you
plan to use it, or block it off if you're not.

If you have not done so, make sure you have an access panel so you can get at the filler/level plug.
You may also want an access panel on the right hand side for the speedo and reverse gear light switch.

Thank you for all your replies, the box is supposed to have done only 30k miles, so hopefully it will be a good one - will change the seals and oil
and see how we go.
Access panels are a great idea.
Cheers all.
