4000 rpm and out :(
I have a 2.0 Pinto in the MK, a standard engine (I believe), a 32/36 DGAV carb, along with a pretty standard exhaust and manifold.
The probelm is that when getting a move on, the car seems to hit a 4000rpm limit, a little stutter/pop from the exhaust and that is it.
It is OK in 1st and 2nd gear, but only seems to happen in 3rd and higher. Obviously this makes overtaking a little hairy - to say the least .
Any ideas as to what the problem may be? Does anyone know where I could take it in the Bedfordshire area for it to be looked at / tuned ?

Check the fuel flow rate to the float chamber & clean the main jets.

Yes, it is distributor based. I am not at all mechanically minded, but was curious why it seems to do it in the higher gears, and not the lower ones

I had a Citroen AX some years back. It maxed at 40 mph independent of which gear was selected.
Turned out to be HT leads.

I will need to take a look at all the suggestions above. Either that or take it to an expert as I am on a real steep learning curve here .
Does the Haynes Sierra manual help out with alot of these tasks ?
