If you had 2k to spend on an engine, car or bike what would you go for? What sort of car engine would 2k get you? a Busa beater?

Supercharged duratec
Mine has currently cost about £1900 (including selling the old pinto) all that I need now is an intercooler (£300 for custom) and the pipework for
it.

ZX14 and MNR's reverse box.
S2000 may be a BUSA beater but it puts a lot of weight up front. Personally I'll take the handling over the brute power.

Does the £2k include ancillaries ?
An S2000 would idealy need a dry sump and an engine management system (although I think muzchap's has modified the existing). Custom exhaust
would cost a pretty penny too.
ZX14 would need a modified sump and with the cost of the motor push you close to £3k.
If I had £2k, all in ?
Probably a ZX12, like you've got already, spend the rest on beer or a reverse box

2K would probably get a rather good Pinto, appropriate gearbox and worthwhile ancillaries.

You could Turbocharge your 12R for £2k...
That's what I'd be doing!

It's a tall engine though. Might lead to issues with bodywork.

I struggle to think of an engine Id less like to plough 2k into than a pinto. The only reason to choose a pinto is because it comes free in the
donor.
all depends what you want, good base engine now, more money coming for tuning in the future, or finished solution?
ie you could fit a standard s2000 engine *just* if you got really lucky, then tune it a bit later, or you could plough 2k into a 20xe vauxhall engine
instead.
At the end of the day its a very personal choice.

Busa, zx12, zx14, zx10,To me bike power is more usable than a high torque car engine in a very light car, and then there's the handling
advantage.
