Strange clutch action.

Here's a problem that i have never come across before.I have just driven
my MK for the first time with the 2.0 zetec fitted. At first the gears were a little notchy
to engage,so i decided to adjust the clutch
to give a bit more free play.
This is the strange bit, when i wound the adjuster nuts on a couple of turns,
it had the opposite effect on the clutch and seemed to wind the adjustment off.
At this point ,i couldnt engage any gear.So i then wound the nut's fully off and this then made gear selection easier.
I am baffled by this and think i must be missing something.
The clutch i am using is a Mondeo friction
plate and a Focus 1.8 pressure plate with a Capri release bearing.Surely the pressure plate can't work back to front can it?
Please help................

Andy

some one had something like this a few months back, i think it turned out the bearing was pushing too far, and pushing the fingers into the clutch plate, effectively engaging the clutch again

could be a possibility?

I had the same problem clutch was being over pulled pushing the clutch plate back towards the flywheel.I just altered the point were the cable fixes to the pedal to give a longer pedal throw and shorter clutch arm movement.
