X-flow coolant setup
I have just installed my new x-flow with a header tank, just one thing I'm not clear about:
The water thermostat housing (fiesta mk3) on top of the cylinder head has a feed that goes back to the top of the expansion tank & the expansion
tank's feed goes to the bottom of the rad before the water pump.
Does the water thermostat housing on top of the head have to have a pressure cap or should it just be blank?
I got an air lock once and I had a doubt about the setup.

There should be 1 pressure cap, usually on the expansion tank. I would fit a blanking cap to the rad (if there is a neck) and one on the thermostat
housing.
The system will be more efficient if you put a bleed off on the top of the rad and "T" into the snall pipe coming off the stat housing
too.

I have that 1.2 bar on the tank, its the thermostat housing I have doubt about, I mean should it allow air/coolant to bleed out of there freely?

The rad is a polo rad, there is a bleed from there but I had to block it as it will not fit my nose cone.
Thanks for that, I'll put the blank on the thermostat housing and see how it goes.

hmmm, if the bleed on the radiaotr is lower than that on the thermostat, I think you risk an air lock.

but there is no bleed on the radiatior, I had to block it off.

I can't see how if the rad is lower than the stat housing and the expansion bottle is the highest point in the system?
Or does air travel downwards in your part of the world lol

Hi
You want a blanking cap for the thermostat housing. And a pressure cap on the expansion / header tank.
Bleeds ideally you would want one on the radiator and the thermostat housing. However if the rad is not possible then the one on the highest point
Except the header tank will do which should be the thermostat housing. The idea is that this will allow a constant bleed back to the header tank. Just
make sure there is no air lock in the top of the rad but unlikely after a bit of use as the air should come back up to the thermostat housing and
bleed of with the circulation.

Can't see from you photo but do you have a pipe connected to the water outlet from the inlet manifold? It is the highest point of the engine and
any air would find it's way there. The hose would originally have gone to the heater and from the heater to the small screw in union on the
water pump .

I.E. Blank on the stat housing with bleed to header tank.
