Anyione gone from xflow to zetec ?
I am contemplating this swap, as i currently have 1 1660xflow with a type 2 gearbox,
A couple of questions (please)
how much higher from the crankshaft pully to the highest point ? on a zetec, compared to a 711 xflow engine ?
is the 1400 engine lower than a 1600/1800 ?
will a zetec mate with a type 2 gear box ?
whats the best 1600 ish zetec to go for ?
and ignition and carburation setups ?
sorry for all the questions, but dont want to make any mistakes
are there any measurement drawings i could peruse ?
any info will be appreciated
regards
Steve

It depends on what you want to use the car for, but I wouldn't use the type 2! Spares are VERY hard to come across and you will end up with
loads of boxes to pillage for repair parts!
Motorway journeys will also be a PITA with no 1:1 gear.
I would also say clutch parts will be more uprated too for the type 9
I had the type 2 for a year before I swapped to the type 9. Was the best thing I did.

I went from a 1700 crossflow to a 2L zetec, I was already running a type 9 gearbox. It turned out i needed an inch extra in height in the engine bay,
I get around it by making a chassis with the added inch from the scuttle forwards.
Can't see any reason to go for a 1600 over a 1.8 or 2L, your crossflow will be puttnig out as much power as a 1600 zetec.

The less I worked, the more i liked it.

I changed from a 1600 cross flow to an 1800 zetec and found it to be about an inch higher when mounted with the cut down sump at 3 inch ground
clearance.I have a low line type caterham nosecone which was only about 8 inches above the chassis.
I had a few oil consumption problems with the silver top zetecs and now have a 2 litre blacktop which in my opinion is the best option. The smaller
zetecs are either the 1600 silver top which is physically the same or else the all alloy type 1250 ,1400 or 1600 cc type se engines that need a
replacement bell housing to fit to a type 9.
The power of an 1880 0r 2litre would soon destroy a 4 speed box and you also need the 5th gear for cruising.

Sorry my above post was wrong - there will be a 4th gear will be 1:1 on the type to, but there will be no "overdrive" type gear to lower
the revs down at cruising speeds.
My 1700 crossflow had a type 2 and a 3.89 diff and used to to 70 at 4000+ RPM. I could of changed the diff I suppose, but I was stuck with what I
had.
Thanks to Dave for pointing out my error!
