Xflow pistons
We all know that the 1600 and 1300 pistons are the same bore but is there any advantage to fitting 1600 pistons in a 1300 engine? Been told it lifts
the compression but not having read up on it don't really know. Anyone here know?

Other way around, I think - 1300cc pistons are used to up the compression ratio on a 1600cc engine (different-shaped piston tops)

Only asking as started to strip the engine down for a rebuild and the pistons are deeply dished, and a bit cack

^^^ wot he said.
the depth of the bowl seems to be the same across the range (1100,1300,1600) but the diameter ofthe bowl increases with increasing capacity.
to increase CR, the pistons from the next capacity down are fitted (1300 in 1600 block and 1100 in 1300 block).
I have researched the above and desptie each engine having different rods and crank throw, the piston dimensions are compatible, just the bowl is
different.
also the 1300 and 1100 had smaller valves - you would need to check the piston valve cut out in the piston is compatible with the head.
you need to look at the piston skirt to determine the condition - that is where the wear occurs - the tops should clean up ok and should be ok unless
damaged.

i had a 1750 cc xflow in a mark 2 cortina i bought for the carbs once....well thats what the owner told me it had in it..he said it was a 1600 block
with 1300 rods or something.....was a long time ago and im not clued up on xflows....
just because you are a character, doesnt mean you have character....
for all your bespoke parts, ali welding, waterjet, laser, folding, turning, milling, composite work, spraying, anodising and cad drawing....
u2u me for details

more likely 1300 pistons than rods.
the rods are different length and get longer with longer crank throw - there is a reason why they are like that - maybe someting to ue with clearance
between rod and the piston skirt but I am sure if Ford could get away with one rod lengthm they would not have bothered making castings for 3
different rods.
