Another possible Megasquirt
MS1 vs MS2
2.2 vs 3.0 vs 3.57
Bit confused, done the reading. Can anybody tell me why I need one or the other? I plan on buying a ready to go system. Not ready to solder that much
and ruin hundreds of dollars worth of stuff!
This will replace my standard ECU for my CA18DET, which has 116 wires coming out of it, half of which are useless.
People have been kind enough to offer maps to try once up and going, which should ease things a lot.
Off to get EDIS parts today at the scrappy.
Thank you!

I run v2.2 ms1 on my ca18det. I think it depends on how much you want to spend. If you have any maps I'd love a copy - you can have mine of
course.

The MS2 offers a few more features than the MS1, especially useful for forced induction. However MS1 is equally capable of running any engine very
well.
MS1 seems much simpler to set up for a new user though as there are fewer options which you can get wrong.

It's the features that I don't understand. Why would I care about "sequential" ignition instead of "batch fire"
for example. Isn't it splitting hairs?
Remember, at present my engine doesn't run well at all, and when it does runs very rich.

I have MS1 V3, and although I have had the main map set up on the R/R, the second map is my playground and very easy to muck about with after a bit of
getting used to it. I have tried to help a guy with MS2 and it totaly foxed me. So in my opinion the MS1 is easier, but that could just be because I
am more familiar with it. Cheers Ray

The more I read, the more I think it's a dumb idea. I might just pay someone to get my regular ECU going properly. I won't live long
enough to figure it out.
Why for example, when your car is running, would you want to fool around with it?
Now I have all the EDIS parts ready to be picked up from the scrappy tomorrow. What would someone pay me for it? I paid $125 (had to get them to take
it all off a 93 Escort 1.9L - I couldn't reach most of it). Includes the following:
Module, coil pack, VR sensor, plug wires, trigger wheel. A bracket will have to be made to fit onto the alternator bracket.

A lot, (not all), of OEM ECU's just can't be altered, especialy Ford. The Megasquirt is a great bit of kit, especially for the cost when
you compare it to most other after market ECU's. Why would you want to mess around with it, well you don't have to, get it set up on the
R/R and just leave it, if that is what you want. I run two maps, because you can, and the second map is set up to be a bit more economical at motorway
speeds, BUT, at the push of a button you can be back to the "kick in the arse" map, and sod the economy. It just really depends on what
you want from your car. IMHO Ray
