Ford Focus engine won't start

I've installed a secondhand engine in a Ford Focus 03 reg. I cannot get the engine started and have come to the point where I am sure that it is a timing problem. The engine came out of a car with automatic transmission (mine is manual) and as far as I can see there is at least a 20 degree difference in the timing mark on the flywheel for the cranksensor between the two engines (everything else is indentical).
I have heard that the same kind of problem can occur if people put a dualmass flywheel on a ford.
Any ideas how I can get around this?

I know the solution but your not going to like it as you will have to take the engine back out
