non return valves
Hi
When fitting a non return valve on a tank breather, do you need either a 1 way (lets air in only) or can you get a 2 way one?
Which is best and where can I get one from?
Cheers chaps

You should have a 2way one if you have a return to the tank.
I bought mine direct from Newton Equimpent
http://www.newton-equipment.com/inline_valves.html
I used the TPV8 valve, seems to work well.
The one way valves are OK but can allow a significant amount of pressure to build up in the tank.

Why a 2 way valve on a crossflow? thought 2 ways were only required on fuel injected setups with a tank return.
Would a cheapo 1 way do here?
Cheers

No the proper ones like I linked to have 2 spring loaded balls in them. So they wont leak fuel if you roll the car.

Nah its some gadget that allows air fo escape but not fuel lol. Ive looked on think automotive but it looks like they only do bolt in on weld in ones.
I need one that fits onto a hose!

You need to let air into the tank and allow expansion on hot days even if you don't have a return pipe.
Thinkauto will make you up a valve to go into a pipe.

Correct! I have no return even though on injection (gixxer pump) so only had a 1 way
valve. Don't under estimate how much expansion/vapourisation you can get on a warm day.

Hijack
I will be making my own tank, eventually, I kept a valve from the original tank, it was affixed by a grommet only to the tank, I think it has the
function to let air in and not let fuel out.
Do you think it´s a good idea to install?
Or shoul I get a proper valve (Not locost?)
Thanks and sorry for the hijack

Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....

Hi David,
Did you call them to purchase? also how much are they if you don't mind saying.
Thanks.
Steve.

I think I emailed them, but yes you can call them direct. The valves are about £45 from memory.
The ones thinkauto sell are the Newton ones anyway. So you might as well buy direct.
Cheers,
David
